Double clicking on a task in the My Current Tasks widget will take you directly to the Task Details, where you will see the Stopwatch (1) icon, and be able to enter Effort and Remaining Effort in the same way as from within My Assignments.

You can also get to the task details from the Task List in the Project Section, or from the Gantt Viewer by using the View button.
